  • Overview

    The American Public Health Association (APHA) and the Bloomberg American Health Initiative at the John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (JHSPH) are partnering to promote actionable research to advance health equity and improve health outcomes.  The Policy Fellow will lead the coordination of key activities across content areas such as environmental health, obesity and food systems, adolescent health, violence, and addiction and overdose.


    WHO MAY APPLY: Graduates of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health only.  The position is grant funded and guaranteed for 9 months.


    The APHA-Bloomberg American Health initiative Policy Fellow will serve as the primary liaison between APHA and JHSPH staff.  Conduct policy research and analysis to develop reports, factsheets and issue briefs.  Produce webinars and other web-based learning tools.  Plan briefings, meetings and other convenings.  Conduct translational research activities such as development of visual abstracts and infographics.  Work closely with other members of the Center, the Center for Climate, Health and Equity as well as other APHA units including Government Relations and Communications.  Perform other duties as assigned.


    Master’s degree in public health and graduate of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.  At least two years of experience providing programmatic and/or administrative support.  Excellent oral and written communication skills.  Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects at the same time.  The ability to interface with a diverse team of staff, consultants and organizational partners.  Travel to the APHA Annual Meeting is required with other occasional travel possible.


    Position is based in downtown DC near several metro stations.


    Hours: 35 hours a week, full-time, Mon- Fri. (daytime).  Number of openings: 1.  The position is grant funded and guaranteed fo 9 months.
