Overview

Under the direct supervision of the Director, Center for Public Health Practice and Professional Development, the Coordinator is responsible for the continuing education offerings during the APHA annual meeting, specifically the Pre-conference Learning Institutes, Annual meeting credit approval process and staffing the Education Board, and assisting in the development of services, trainings and products of the Professional Development Unit.

Responsibilities

Assist the Director with maintaining compliance for accreditation requirements. Manage the Learning Institute (LI) review process: soliciting proposals; managing selection committee with review process; serving as liaison to LI speakers prior to and onsite at annual meeting; overseeing LI courses at APHA annual meeting; processing continuing education (CE) certificates. Manage and staff the Education Board, including the Annual Meeting, Mid-Year Meeting and monthly virtual meetings and prepare minutes. Manage APHA’s online educational program and other internal educational activities such as APHA Now. Manage the review of APHA annual meeting sessions and roundtables for CE approval to include the solicitation of volunteers, overseeing assignments, and “clearing” sessions for credit. Draft and respond to public/internal inquiries and requests. Generate letters, memorandums, minutes, spreadsheets, and presentation documents. Provide support in the development of the Education Board and Learning Institute annual budget. Interact with the Center director and web master to produce, post, and maintain the Continuing Education website. Develop LI promotional ads for APHA Nation’s Health newspaper and write content for APHA’s e-Newsletter. Travel to the Annual Meeting is required with other occasional travel possible. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Supervisor.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in health, Education or related field from a four-year college or university or relevant experience. Three years of work experience at the professional or paraprofessional level. Previous experience with project support within associations or professional societies. Knowledge of accreditation processes. Experience with a wide range of administrative duties and project coordination. Computer proficient in word processing, spreadsheets, web site maintenance, learning management systems and other technology. Capable of working on a team or independently with minimal supervision on projects. Detail oriented, proactive, and excellent organizational, planning. Management and follow-up skills. Proven track record of effectively orchestrating multiple activities in a fast-paced environment. Experience in effectively managing multiple time-sensitive demands with limited direct supervision. Strong written and oral communication skills. Requires occasional lifting and moving to 25 pounds.

 

Position is based in downtown DC near several metro stations.  Hybrid work environment.

 

Hours: 35 hours a week, full-time, Monday - Friday (daytime).  Number of openings: 1.
